At one time quarters were made out of silver, but they are base metal now. Those old quarters made out of silver are now so very expensive. Like you will not find any in loose change any more. Most people do not realize what is going on. Inflation has been creeping up on us. Back in 1964 the silver in a quarter was worth 25 cents or more. Specifically, that is why they stopped making quarters out of silver that year. OK so you could with a quarter get a gallon of gas. Well, if you sell that silver 1964 quarter now you get $4 and you can still get a gallon of gas. Actually, the silver quarter is not more expensive. Value is still the same.
